# Moisture triggers

> Start an automation when a plant's soil moisture crosses a threshold.

A moisture trigger runs an automation when a reading crosses a threshold you set. See the [automations overview](/mintlify-demo/v1.1/tasks/automations/overview) for how conditions are evaluated.

## Set a threshold

    In the VerdantBot app, select a plant and tap **Automations → Add**.

    Set the trigger to fire when moisture drops below a percentage (for example, 20%).

    Pick the task to run when the trigger fires, then save.
