# Overview

> How automations chain tasks together based on sensor readings.

Automations let one task trigger another. For example, a low moisture reading can start a watering task and then a follow-up reminder if moisture stays low.

## How automations evaluate

Each automation watches a condition and runs a task when it's met. Conditions are checked against the latest readings on the [soil moisture dashboard](/mintlify-demo/v1.1/soil-moisture-dashboard).
